Surrender

Attending a national conference recently reunited me with several friends in ministry.  During dinner one evening, a buddy asked, “Which of God’s commands is repeated the most in the Bible?”  Well, armed and prepared to blow my colleagues away—after all I’ve been in seminary now two whole years—I rose up with the obvious answer.  After being shot down faster than a dropout on Jeopardy, I witnessed my other buddies go down in flames as well.  It’s amazing what we’ll use to comfort us—but that’s a blog for another time!

When the answer was finally shared, we offered a collective “of course” in perfect unison.  It’s not about faith, or sin, or even love.   God’s most repeated command to His children is:  “Fear not!”  Of all God’s commands in the Bible, the mandate to “fear not” is repeated more than any other admonition.

Living On Purpose

In our highly technical world, we send and receive information around the clock.  With just our smart phones alone, we can call and text message people.  We can check emails, stock quotes, play games, listen to music watch television, read books, even take notes while our favorite speaker is preaching!

A wise person once said, there is a price to pay for everything. And our phones not only cost us at the time of purchase, but we pay every time it’s used. I am not speaking of AT&T fees or roaming charges. I am speaking of a cost far more difficult to calculate—distractions!

New Beginnings

It’s always thrilling to begin again.  New is awesome—no focusing on past mistakes, setbacks and miscues.  2013 represents a new era with new adventures and endless possibilities!

Constantly rehashing the past can be a crippling thing.  Thoughts of previous failures, mistakes and missteps can leave one feeling frustrated, insecure and useless.  I am discovering that my thoughts determine everything.  And, while I’ve always known about the power of positive thinking, I have rarely practiced it until lately...
